Rocha da Pena is a rocky, limestone natural formation, in the form of a steep cornice and includes a plateau about 2 km long, reaching at its highest point 479 m in altitude.
It is a protected landscape and an authentic natural monument of particular geological wealth and biodiversity.

Due to the natural conditions, it has a microclimate that is home to unique species of flora and fauna.

At the top you will see plant species such as the albardeira rose, rosemary, thyme, rockrose, lavender, carob and cork oak. You can also observe the small mammals that live in this place, such as the badger, the mongoose, the fox, the hedgehog or the hare. The place is also home to colonies of bats and, in the small dams, wells or tanks in the area, amphibian species such as frogs and salamanders live. In addition to these, you will also be able to observe birds of prey such as the Bonelli's Eagle, the Round-winged Eagle, the Little Owl, the Golden Owl, the Kestrel or the Kite, among many other species of birds.

Rocha da Pena is located in the middle of the Algarve Barrocal, in the interior of the municipality of Loulé, localities of Salir and Benafim.
